Project Abeona HEADS-UP DISPLAY

This was one of my first vehicle UI integration projects, focused on designing a non-intrusive heads-up display (HUD) for in-car dashboards. The concept featured intuitive, gesture-based controls—prioritizing safety and simplicity without disrupting the driving experience.

AI Integration

Abeona is designed to activate seamlessly as soon as the driver enters the vehicle, ready to respond to voice commands without the need for physical input. This intelligent assistant enhances the driving experience by allowing hands-free interaction for navigation, media control, messaging, and real-time information. By prioritizing safety and convenience, Abeona minimizes distractions and creates a more natural, intuitive connection between driver and vehicle through voice-driven technology.

Objective

At a time when startups were actively reimagining the future of driving, this project emerged as a solution to integrate smart device functionality into the driving experience—without causing distraction. The concept was built around creating a seamless, non-intrusive interface that enhances driver safety through voice and gesture controls. By prioritizing minimalism and ease of use, the system allows users to interact with their devices naturally, enabling safer, hands-free access to essential functions while keeping their focus on the road.

Alerts from your smart device

Through seamless Bluetooth integration, users can connect multiple smart devices to the Abeona heads-up display (HUD), enabling real-time interaction while on the road. Designed with safety and user experience in mind, the interface allows drivers to receive notifications, respond to messages, and control connected devices—all through intuitive, distraction-free gestures or voice commands. This connected ecosystem ensures a fluid and responsive in-car experience, enhancing convenience without compromising focus or safety.

My Role

Designing for Google Glass and in-vehicle integrated technology has been a key area of interest in my career. I focused on creating a user interface and user experience that prioritized simplicity, minimal distraction, and driver safety. The goal was to deliver intuitive, hands-free interactions tailored to the unique demands of in-motion environments.

Use gestures

Abeona’s gesture-based interface is designed to simplify in-car interactions by allowing users to perform key actions with a simple wave of the hand. Drivers can easily answer incoming calls or dismiss notifications using intuitive, non-intrusive gestures—eliminating the need to touch the screen or divert attention from the road. This hands-free functionality enhances safety while providing a seamless and modern user experience, blending convenience with cutting-edge interaction design tailored for the driving environment.

Outcome

Abeona was successfully launched through crowdfunding and integrated into a range of modern vehicle systems, showcasing its appeal as an innovative in-car user experience solution. The concept gained industry recognition and was later acquired by JBL, further validating its value in the automotive and consumer electronics markets.
